It’s fascinating how abstract mathematical problems can come to life, solve engineering problems in real-life applications, and improve our daily lives

Daniel Tihanyi was a Ph.D. student in the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH Zürich under the supervision of Prof. John Lygeros, Dr. Alisa Rupenyan, and Prof. Colin Jones from EPFL between March 2021 and March 2022. His research project involved predictive control for additive manufacturing in collaboration with the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR), Inspire-IfA at ETH Zürich, and the Automatic Control Laboratory at EPFL. He received his Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) in 2018, and his Master’s in Robotics, Systems and Control at ETH Zürich in 2021. During his studies, he focused on dynamic systems, control, machine learning, and optimization in robotics-related applications. He participated in industrial research in Budapest working for Furukawa Electric (FETI) in 2017 using machine learning for manufacturing, and the Institute of Computer Science and Control (SZTAKI) in 2019 designing algorithms for multi-robot coordination.
