Fascinated to participate in an interdisciplinary research improving passengers' experience in public transportation with information as a control tool

Mahsa Rahimi was a Ph.D. student and researcher assistant at the Institute of Transportation System at ETH Zurich between September 2020 and January 2022. She obtained her BSc degree in Computer Engineering (software engineering) and her MSc degree in Industrial Engineering (system management and productivity). She previously was a scientific assistant at the Institute of Transportation System at ETH Zurich. Her research interests were an interface between behaviour analysis, public transportation, agent-based simulation, and data analysis.

Title

Information-mediated control of pervasively sensed public transport networks during disruptions

Summary

In public transport disruptions, the choice of travelers is only among the alternatives they are aware of. The understanding of the travelers under an unexpected disruptive event is limited, often based on incomplete, untimely information, which causes much frustration, and limits the potential of any optimal disposition timetable, found by optimization methods. This project uses real time information as a pervasive sensing device; determines a framework determining feedback actions, and disseminates transit information to operators and travellers, seen as a pervasive control instrument.
