NCCR Automation Hosts Fourth Workshop on Control and Computational Methods
The event began on 30 June with a dinner at the ETH Zurich Dozentenfoyer, where participants enjoyed informal conversations and a spectacular view over Zurich’s skyline.
The main workshop took place on 1 July at Villa Hatt, another venue offering stunning panoramic views of the city. Following a welcome session, company representatives introduced their organisations and presented technical challenges they are currently facing. These presentations were followed by breakout discussions, allowing researchers and industry participants to jointly brainstorm innovative solutions and identify opportunities for collaboration.
In the afternoon, participants took part in a “Control Methods Speed Dating” session, where researchers showcased different control and optimisation approaches across four interactive stations.
A telling sign of the workshop’s success was that keeping to the schedule proved challenging at times: both the morning breakout sessions and the afternoon speed-dating rounds sparked such lively discussions that participants were often reluctant to end conversations or move on to the next station. Fortunately, this was a luxury problem that the organisers were happy to have.
