Overlooking the beautiful city of Zurich from ETH Zurich’s Villa Hatt, engineers from BELIMO, Elesta, Hilti, Hamilton Bonaduz, and Stadler Rail met with researchers from EPFL, ETH Zurich, FHNW, FH Ost, and ZHAW to discuss practical challenges in automation and learn about the latest advances in control theory.

Claudia Fischer introduces the event.

In the morning session, each company presented a specific control challenge they are facing. In the afternoon, there was time to explore new control methods and how they could help address these challenges.

Both sides were delighted by the format. “I really liked that researchers were first given a prior with our presentation such that the discussions in the afternoon could be structured around our specific pain points”, says one participant from industry. This sentiment was shared by the researchers: “I liked that the companies presented very specific problems. This allowed us to have in depth problems solving discussions.”

Would they join such an event again? Absolutely! Our feedback survey shows that 100% of the participants enjoyed the event, would recommend it to their friends and peers, and are highly motivated to start a collaboration.

The NCCR Automation is proud to facilitate such collaborations between industry and academia. By working together, we can tackle the complex challenges of the future and stay at the forefront of innovation.

Sharing the excitement of one of our researchers – “Do it again, more often, more companies!” – we are looking forward to hosting many more such events. If you would like to participate, do not hesitate to contact us
