The success of large scale machine learning is starting to move beyond language and vision to enable control of complex physical systems to perform challenging tasks. However, there are core obstacles in doing so that require interdisciplinary team of researchers with experience in machine learning, robotics, and control. NCCR automation provides this expertise, making it a great community to join in overcoming these obstacles.

Bruce is a postdoc with the ETH AI Center hosted by Andreas Krause, John Lygeros, and Melanie Zeilinger. He works in machine learning and control, with the goal of developing scalable and sample efficient algorithms to enable real world reinforcement learning to be applied to complex robotic control tasks. Before joining ETH, Bruce completed his PhD in Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania in 2025, and his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Minnesota in 2020.
