I strive to make the systems and infrastructure we use everyday smarter, more efficient, more sustainable and more comfortable to use.

Jonas G. Matt is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Automatic Control Laboratory of ETH Zurich. He grew up on the Austrian side of Lake constance. He obtained a B.Sc. in Electrical engineering in 2021 and a M.Sc. in Robotics, Systems and Control in 2024, both from ETH Zurich.

In his research, he uses tools from data science, optimization, and control theory to improve the capabilities and efficiency of the systems that surround us. His previous work has ranged from modeling the physics of soft robots to real-time voltage control in power networks. Next to his studies, he has obtained professional experience in data analytics, renewable energy systems, and IoT technologies.

Presently, his research focuses on the future proofness of energy systems. By coordinating the interactions between the entities that operate different levels of a power network, he aims to maximize the amount of electricity that can be safely transferred. Among other things, this enables a faster integration of renewable energy sources and, thus, supports the ongoing energy transition.
