I work in automation and control because they form the backbone of intelligent decision-making, from human interactions to autonomous systems. The interdisciplinary nature of NCCR Automation opens exciting opportunities to apply novel ideas from one field to solve pressing problems in another, driving innovation in cooperative AI and beyond.

Raj is a PhD candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Coordinated Science Laboratory, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), advised by Prof. Tamer Basar. His research focuses on multi-agent systems, game theory, and asymmetric information, with applications in cooperative AI and autonomous decision-making. Through the NCCR Automation Fellowship, he is currently visiting Dr. Emilio Frazzoli and Dr. Andrea Censi to work on signaling in autonomous driving. Raj earned his bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and his master’s from UIUC. He is passionate about understanding how agents can strategically signal intent through actions to enhance coordination and efficiency. Beyond research, he enjoys coffee, music, cooking and long walks during sunsets.
